KEDRA + VIMCAR
Using Vimcar? Here's what it doesn't cover.
Vimcar gives you affordable GPS tracking with easy-to-install hardware. But it was built for the German market. MOT tracking, DVLA data, UK tax monitoring, and walkaround inspections are not part of the package. Kedra fills those gaps.
WHAT VIMCAR DOES WELL
Vimcar is good at what it does
Tracking and telematics. That is their job, and they do it well.
Easy self-install hardware
Vimcar's OBD dongle plugs directly into your vehicle's diagnostic port. No professional installation needed. For small fleets wanting basic GPS tracking, this is a genuinely simple way to get started.
Affordable vehicle tracking
Competitive pricing for basic tracking that includes hardware. Location history, route recording, and trip logging without the enterprise price tag.
Digital logbook
Vimcar's logbook feature is well-suited to German tax requirements. Automatic trip classification and mileage recording for business/personal use.
THE GAPS
What Vimcardoesn't manage
Tracking tells you where vehicles are. It does not tell you whether they should be on the road.
MOT and UK tax monitoring
Vimcar has no connection to the DVLA. No MOT expiry tracking. No tax status monitoring. No alerts when compliance deadlines approach. UK-specific obligations are invisible to the platform.
Insurance and driver licence tracking
No insurance renewal monitoring. No driver licence expiry checks. No way to verify that drivers are authorised and properly documented.
DVLA vehicle data
Vimcar knows a tracker is fitted. It does not know the vehicle's MOT history, tax status, keeper details, V5C data, or UK-specific specifications. You manage this information separately.
Maintenance cost tracking
No service history logging. No cost-per-mile analysis. No total cost of ownership calculations. Fleet financials live outside Vimcar entirely.
Daily vehicle inspections
No walkaround check system. No DVSA-aligned daily inspection process. No defect reporting workflow. If you need to demonstrate duty of care through daily checks, Vimcar cannot help.
HOW KEDRA FILLS THE GAP
The compliance and admin layer your tracker needs
Keep Vimcar for tracking. Add Kedra for everything else.
UK compliance that Vimcar doesn't have
Kedra tracks MOT, tax, insurance, and driver licence dates. Automated email alerts before anything lapses. Built specifically for UK fleet compliance requirements.
DVLA integration
Enter a registration and get 16+ fields from the DVLA instantly. Full MOT history. Tax status. Vehicle specifications. No manual lookups.
Fleet cost visibility
Track fuel, servicing, insurance, and other costs per vehicle. See total cost of ownership and cost-per-mile across your fleet. The financial picture your tracker does not provide.
Digital walkaround inspections
DVSA-aligned 31-item daily checks with QR code access for drivers. Photo capture, digital signatures, and a complete audit trail. Duty of care evidence built in.
No hardware, complements your tracker
Kedra is software-only. It sits alongside your Vimcar setup without conflict. Keep Vimcar for tracking. Use Kedra for everything else.
